Have you ever struggled with what to pray or how to pray? Praying scripture is the source of communication between you and God. It is a way for you to share what is on your heart and seek direction for life. God’s word which is inspired through the Holy Spirit allows us the opportunity to have the very valuable avenue of communicating.
I remember my mother giving me the book, [“Prayers That Avail Much ” by Germaine Copeland]. I still use this tattered and torn book for my prayer needs. This book is amazing to teach praying scripture.! It is sectioned by different problems, types of relationships, specific needs that you might have and how to create a prayer utilizing scripture.
You are praying and putting the Word of God into the atmosphere. I know that life and death are in the power of the tongue and learning to pray scripture transformed my prayer life.
I would find a scripture that was speaking to my problem or situation and replace or add my name wherever appropriate. One of my prayers went like this:
“God did not give LaVonda a spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind. LaVonda is created in the image of God and He has a plan and a purpose for her life. Greater is He that is in LaVonda than he that is in the world. LaVonda is an overcomer by the blood of the Lamb and the word of my testimony.“
I would write these positive scriptural reminders on note cards and post them where I could see them as a visual reminder whenever I was struggling with low self-esteem, feeling unloved and not accepted.
Low Self -Esteem is a Problem for Women
Low-self esteem is characterized as lack of confidence and feeling badly about oneself. When you’re surrounded by negativity and zero positive reinforcement, it is difficult to feel confident. You don’t think, “I can do”, but rather, “I’m a loser”. I remember spending days wishing I could hear LaVonda, “you can do it, I believe in you”. These words were seldom echoed as a child. Praise God I was taken to church every Sunday where I was taught God’s word and where I have my true identity.
My mother may not have been an affectionate person that gave hugs or a woman of encouraging words, but she knew where to lead me to build a solid foundation. I know she loves me and did an outstanding job providing for me; however, I did long for words of encouragement and that occasional hug or touch to show affection.
These feelings crossed over into my adult years and so did the struggle with depression, shame, feeling unloved, unforgiveness, and bitterness. I knew there had to be a solution to this vicious cycle within me which would inevitably destroy my life and my family.
Hallelujah, there is Praying the Word of God
Have you struggled with depression?
Well, let me tell you, I struggled with depression and was on medication for over 7 years. It affected my life in more ways than I can count.
Depression is a disease, a mental illness that affects millions of people today. It causes you to feel sad, down, no pleasure for life, weight gain or weight loss, and hopelessness. I felt all these things for years and walked around in a fog like a zombie. I’m grateful there was medication available to assist me during these years; however, I Praise God for His Word and that I found Hope in Depression through Praying Scripture.
Praying scripture will build your confidence, self-confidence, calm anxiety and more. You should try it.
But let me warn you, the enemy will try to use negative self-talk to stop you from achieving God’s purpose in your life.
You can do it!
You got this!
You can become the strong and courageous woman of God he called you to become!
God is no respecter of persons
He did for me, so I know He’ll do it for you.
In the Garden of Eden, the serpent came in the form of a question, causing Eve to doubt what God had instructed.
_”He said to the woman, ‘Did God really say that you must not eat from any tree in the garden?”_Genesis 3:1
That’s a question which plants a seed of doubt into our minds. God’s word gives us His command. Don’t doubt God!! Take authority and use God’s Word as your weapon!
God’s Command – I love you
It is NOT – Do you think I love you?
God’s Command – I have a plan and a purpose for your life. (Jeremiah 29:11)
It is NOT Do you think I have a plan and purpose for you?
Pick up your [Bible ]and begin finding scripture to speak to your situation and circumstances.
Another one of favorite resources
[God’s Creative Power Will Work for You ] by Charles Capps. This small pamphlet is the best! If you’ve ever been on one of my Joyful Journey RefresHER Retreats; you’re likely to own a copy, so ladies, pull it out and use it!
This pamphlet is small enough to carry in your handbag, messenger purse or backpack. [God’s Creative Power] teaches you how to use God’s Word like medicine and take it as “Capsules”. Isn’t that awesome? This way you’re constantly feeding on God’s Word and renewing your mind daily. (Romans 12:2)
The author encourages you to repeat a scripture 3 times a day just as if it’s a prescribed medicine. I love it!! And trust me – it Works!!!!
When will you begin your medicine?
