What is Prayer? Does God really hear my prayers? Is there POWER in praying?
These are questions that ran through my mind when I attended a Women’s Aglow meeting in 1994. I attended at the constant prompting of my mother-in-law. She is a woman of great faith and a powerful praying woman. She had shared the importance of having a strong and powerful prayer life as a woman of God.
Prayer is spiritual communication between man and God, a two-way relationship in which we should not only talk to God but also listen to Him.
As I listened intently on what the speaker was saying about the importance of praying and how it would renew our mind, set us free from anxiety and depression, my ears perked up because I wanted to experience a change in my life. I had spent years fighting these demons in my life.
Developing a praying lifestyle and communicating with God with this level of intimacy would require commitment and sacrifice.
Was I ready and was this “real”?
Was I witnessing women praying in their prayer language and with greater depth than I had ever seen?
YES ! and I immediately wanted more! I wanted this kind of Prayer Encounter with God!
“ Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2
How Do You Become a Powerful Praying Woman?
If I was going to renew my mindset and begin following after the things of Christ, I first had to change my “stickin thinkin”. My thought life was all over the place and connecting with God seemed impossible at first.
I soon learned that if I could learn to sit still ~ “Be Still and Know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10 and learn to share what was in my heart and then listen, God would hear to my request.
We make time for things that are important to us, right? When we take the time to go to the movies or take the children on a playdate, we make sure we show up for the appointment.

- Asking for Forgiveness
- Ask God for His will for your life
- Pray for Others

Why Should I Become a Prayer Warrior?
Satan comes to steal, kill and destroy you and your family.
Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. John 10:10
Have you seen the movie, “War Room”? In this movie, the main character played by Priscilla Shirer, turns a closet area in a space where she would meet God to PRAY. She became intentional in presenting her requests to God and believing His Word.
She made it simple by writing prayers out on post-it notes.
I have used this same practice in my personal life to begin memorizing Scripture.
Friend, this is a powerful discipline. Learn to memorize Scripture so you are equipped to fight the enemy. This is spiritual warfare.
As women of God, it is important that we learn to keep our families covered in prayer.
For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12
I wrote out scripture and prayers and they became visual reminders to of God’s faithfulness and His promises.
Is there Power in Prayer?
Yes, Prayer is Power and Prayer does change things, situations, and circumstances.
I have personally witnessed healing and GOD ONLY Favor take place in my life and the lives of others.
I enjoy using a prayer journal to write out my prayer requests and it has been amazing checking them off as Praise Reports!
God answers prayer with a Yes, No, and Wait. Is your heart in a position to receive His answer? Have you surrendered your will to His will?
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
To wait for God to answer can sometimes be extremely difficult especially when we are living in times of instant gratification and we want things now. But God’s timing is perfect.
Patience has not always been my virtue. I have learned to trust God with every detail of my life, but friend it was not always an easy journey ~ BUT it is possible! It became easier when I spent time with Him developing a prayer lifestyle and learning how to listen to the Holy Spirit.
