Put your heart and soul into it… What does that mean to you?
How do I serve God with all my heart when I am overwhelmed, stressed and God seems far away? These were my thoughts when I was facing another visit to doctor’s office for another iron infusion. My body was weak and exhausted from anxiety and insomnia that crept in from not studying God’s word and keeping Him first. I was also spending longer hours at work so I could earn an Outstanding employee performance.
Before long, I was walking around with a heart that was no longer full of gratitude and thanksgiving, but one with selfish ambition.
Serving God with all my heart must become a priority.
Have you ever experienced knowing the attributes about God in your head, but experienced difficulty connecting it with your heart? I have
The Bible tells us that
- God is omnipotent (He is all-powerful)
- God is omnipresent (He is everywhere)
- God is omniscient (He knows all things)
- He is truth (God cannot lie)
- He is just (God always does what is right)
I know all these things, but something is still missing ~ what’s wrong with me? Nothing. And nothing is wrong with you friend.
God sees all our efforts and knows our heart. But we must take time to get to KNOW God personally. Not through the testimonies of others, what watch see on television, or hear when we go to church.
Know the heart of God for yourself by seeking him and then you’ll know how to serve.

You can begin to seek God with your whole heart by taking these simple steps.
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with
all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13
- Read your Bible. God speaks through His written Word to those whose hearts are longing for Him.
- Sing songs of praise and worship. The Bible tells us that God occupies the praises of His people
- Pray. When you talk to God in prayer it is important to take time the listen.
What does the Bible say about serving God?
When you spend time with God and become full of his Word by his Holy Spirit pouring into you, your cup is full and you can pour into others serving with your whole heart.
You can serve God every day through your faith, your community, and by setting a good example. When you develop an intimate relationship with God in your daily quiet time you know the heart of God. It becomes a habit to regularly pray for yourself , your friends and family.
You can also serve God by serving people in your community.
Martha and Mary invited Jesus to their home to serve Jesus and his disciples a meal and to enjoy fellowship with them.
I know we’ve been in the season of social distancing , but when was the last time you spent quality time with a friend or family member to serve and display the love of Christ.
What does it mean to have the heart of God?
But God removed Saul and replaced him with David, a man about whom God said, ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart.
He will do everything I want him to do. Acts 13:22
God, having removed Saul from his position as king, raised up David to be Israel’s king. God said he was “a man after my own heart” and a man who would fulfill His will.
Wow! Think about that for a moment. How would you feel if God to said this about you? Do you have such a heart as David did? Does your heart seek God’s heart and His will?
It means your heart loves the things that God’s heart loves righteousness and loves all people, not just those we consider “lovable”. It is a heart that feels compelled to give mercy and grace, to love and help others, and, most of all, it is a heart that desires to obey God and walk according to His will and ways.
I took every opportunity to know more about having the heart like David,
Consider the words of David, “a man after God’s heart,” as he expresses the depths of his heart.
O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water. So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory. Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips shall praise You. Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name. My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, And my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips. When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches. Because You have been my help, Therefore in the shadow of
Your wings, I will rejoice. My soul follows close behind You; Your right hand upholds me. Psalm 63:1-8
Those are the words of a man(woman) that God testifies to us is after His own heart.
I examined my heart and knew I needed to repent and revive my relationship with Christ. Examine your heart and pray to have a heart like David’s, a heart that loves the Lord your God with all your might, and with all your strength, and with all your mind.
That’s a heart after the heart of God.
That’s a heart our Father can find great pleasure in and thereby be honored and glorified.
